Please listen to my recent podcast interview with James Maskell of the Functional Medicine Forum where we discuss how I first became involved with Integrative Medicine in the 1970s when it was known mainly as Holistic or Alternative medicine. We also talk about my four decades of work in the field since that time, both as a practicing family physician and as an author and teacher. Check out the podcast link below.

The publication of my most recent book Staying Healthy with NEW Medicine is the completion of the Staying Healthy Trilogy and really represents a new octave of the work I began more than 40 years ago. N-E-W is an acronym for Natural, Eastern and Western medicines and I discuss with James how these three medical modalities can be combined to offer a truly integrated approach to diagnosis and treatment.

We also talk about some of the professional challenges of practicing NEW Medicine. Many practitioners offering integrative therapies work only on a cash-for-service basis, but my clinic, The Preventive Medical Center of Marin, operates within the insurance model, including Medicare, and I share my ideas and experience about how to make this work.
