The Health Continuum is an idea I have been working with for a number of years. Many of us see our health as a status quo, or set point, which we only pay attention to when it begins to get out of balance – when we feel sick. Then we go to the doctor and maybe take medicine to try and bring ourselves back to where we were. This is a reactive approach to health care and I encourage people to become proactive instead. What if we made lifestyle choices in such areas as our diet, exercise, stress management, sleep and attitude, so that we actually moved our health set point in the direction of improved, even optimal, health? That’s the goal, that’s what I mean by “become your own best doctor.”
